Approved by KIDS FIRST! http://www.kidsfirst.org for ages 8 to 13, Adult-Approved and Kid-Tested from AMERICAN ANIMATION STUDIOS . Description: American history comes alive as Boomer the Eagle introduces us to the founding fathers at the 1775 Virginia Convention and the action leading to Patrick Henry's famous rallying cry for American independence: "Give me liberty or give me death!" KIDS FIRST!® Expert Comments, Ranny's Picks & Dr. Toy: American Animation Studios recreates the story behind Patrick Henry?s celebrated speech as it transports students back to the world of the founding fathers with humor, conversational narration, and the realism of 3-D animation. Its many unique features enhance both learning value for the classroom and viewing appeal for families. Host is Boomer, a comical but charming eagle, who introduces Patrick Henry, one of the American Revolution?s most influential advocates, best known for his ?Give me liberty or give me death? speech. This engaging program takes viewers back to Henry?s childhood, where he preferred fishing and fiddling. A chance encounter with a young Thomas Jefferson inspires him to pursue a career (self-taught) in law. Henry?s integrity and passionate belief in the colonists? right to independence lead him to speak out against King George, denounce corrupt government officials, and crusade for the rights of his fellow Americans. The riveting dramatization of Henry?s famous speech will keep even the youngest viewers entranced, as Boomer humorously translates Henry?s sophisticated language into simple terms anyone can understand and humanizes Patrick Henry and his colleagues through the realism of 3-D animation, spoken narration, and the voices of professional actors. Deepens learning and increases retention through a combination of humor, entertaining storytelling, and advanced production values. Puts the basic historical facts in rich historical context gathered from primary sources and archival documents. (Dr. Toy) KIDS FIRST!® Adult Juror Comments: Appealing and educational. Good family entertainment and educational resource. "I like the way Boomer makes explanations throughout the program." Good content that teaches historical lessons to children in a fun fashion. Boomer, the animated eagle host, is very engaging. The lip synch is off and the accents change throughout the presentation but these are things that can be overlooked. Uses simple, two-dimensional animation which is well done, works for this story but isn't glitzy. KIDS FIRST!® KID Juror Comments: Enjoyed it. The content gives children insight into the life of Patrick Henry who is presented as a role model of someone who stands up for his convictions. The early biographical information gives kids an opportunity to see him as a person who started out as a child, like them, who grew up to do amazing things and explains why he is of historical importance.More info: http://kidsfirst.org/detail/207272.htmlKIDS FIRST! is the Coalition for Quality Children's Media's program that evaluates, rates and endorses children's feature films, DVDs, videos, CDs and TV shows using volunteer, community-based juries comprising child development professionals, teachers as well as parents and children from diverse geographic, socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
